Do You Sabotage Your Weight Loss Program?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

If you would like to lose weight, you must have a plan, a route map to success. This is called a program or programme. There are thousands of programs, but many of them are just just batty. If they sound foolish, they probably are. Have you heard of the ‘cabbage water diet’? It sounds daft and it is. You cannot only drink cabbage water all your life!

Although there is a lot of nonsense talked about losing weight, there are some truths that play a role to play in almost any program you choose to follow. One of these truths is that it is better to eat many small meals during the day (about 5-6), than to go all day without eating and then gorging yourself at dinner in the evening. This is popularly called ‘grazing’.

Have you ever wondered why this might be so? Well, the fact is, that the typical human body can only handle about 250 calories an hour. If you consume more than that, you are almost certainly overloading your digestive system. This is why it matters, because if your body cannot handle all the calories that you give it, it will stockpile them.

Your body can only use up what it requires to fulfill the job that it is busy with, that is, what you are putting it through. If you are watching TV, a lot of of those 250 will be stored. If you are exercising, most will be burned up. It stores the remainder as body fat. Your body has learned through evolution that tough times will come, so it prepares for them. It is like us putting excess money in a savings account or people hoarding food if a bad winter is predicted.

However, these days in the West, we seldom face those lean times anymore. So, that fat is never used up and we just keep adding to it until we resolve, by choice, to limit our intake of calories or increase our amount of exercise.

Knowing this information, what can we do with it? Well, if you were to want to lose weight, you ought to be consuming no more than 1,500 calories a day (or whatever your program tells you), so 1,500 divided by 250 is six. if you ate 250 calories every other hour, that would give you twelve hours.

Therefore, eating light but often would be a helpful strategy or program to follow, because firstly, you are only providing your body with what it needs, when it needs it and secondly, you are able to better maintain a consistent blood sugar level, which means that you level out the spikes and troughs you experience in a normal day’s cycle.

Two hundred and fifty calories does not seem a lot, but it is surprising what it will stretch too, if you take the time to investigate. It is true that you will have to rigorously restrict some foodstuffs, like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, but whoever honestly thought that you could lose weight by eating that stuff anyway?

If you do not have time to cook several times every day, look in your supermarket. There are loads of ‘250 calorie’ microwave meals. You don’t want to eat that? I can’t blame you. so get a good cookbook, which shows calorie content. You are at work all day? OK, eat some fruit, but choose wisely. It can be done, it only takes a little determination and planning.

Tips For Keeping Warm In The Winter

Friday, March 5th, 2010

You know we have entered the coldest period of the year when even the warmth in our homes doesn’t stop us from feeling the chilled air.

Cold winters and blustery storms leave me cold, literally! I’m at my best with the sun on my back. I know some think differently, but that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

There’s nothing I can do about the weather unfortunately, all I can do is give you some advice on how to stay warm and save money at the same time.

If you like nothing better than to snuggle up next to a fireplace, I would advise getting a blower. This will distribute the heat more evenly and it will reach out further into the room.

The heat that the fireplace generates is blown throughout the room so it warms everyone, not just those sat in front of it. This means you can do without having your heating on at the same time, ultimately proving to be cost effective.

One of my personal favorites is my heated blanket. I switch it on an hour or so before I go to bed and my bed id so cozy when I get in that I don’t need any additional heating on.

They can be left on all night, but a lot to have them turned down or off completely as once they are warm they stay warm under the covers. A great sleep is guaranteed either way.

The last one for today is incredibly simple; putting blinds up at your skylight. These are notorious for letting in drafts and a blind goes a long way to stopping them.

These little touches can save you a lot of money through the long wintry months. Even if you only try one you will see a difference.

The Great Sport Of Soccer For Our Youth

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Every child should grow up physically active. Not only does such activity promote good health, but it leaves our kids happier for it.

Endorphins are the key to happiness and exercise is the key to releasing those endorphins.

Children need something to release their energy into and any type of physical sport can be a great way to let off some of their energy. Personally, I think that getting your kids into soccer from a young age is a perfect way to get them active.

Kids love to play soccer and it has a whole host of benefits for the child physically and mentally, which I intend to cover a little in this article.

A good ability to run and balance well is what will develop from playing soccer since it is a game that focuses on the legs more than anything else. It involves so much running around, moving in different ways that your child will grow and develop healthier muscles in their legs, stomach, and back areas. Soccer also helps to attain good hand eye coordination.

Soccer often involves quite a bit of running and general moving about the field and as a result will help to build muscles strength within your child’s legs as well as stomach and back. Not just the running but the kicking and dribbling all help to use muscles that wouldn’t normally get much use from walking alone.

Lastly, this is a team sport to the fullest extent. Playing on a field with up to 10 other teammates at once will build teamwork and cooperation attributes that make your child more amenable to working with other people in all situations across the board.

After everything said, soccer is proven to be a great choice for your children and it doesn’t matter if you have girls or boys or both, soccer is a game for everyone and a good choice to make.

Besides children, the author additionally regularly pens articles regarding pregnancy exercise clothes and plus size maternity clothing.

How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolution To Lose Weight.

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most common New Year’s resolution in the West is to lose weight. However, it is also the first New Year’s resolution most apt to be broken! Losing weight is not difficult in theory, but practice is oh, so different. This is because it involves lifestyle changes.

Our bodies change as we get older and typically our level of activity decreases too. Maybe, we get an office job with a promotion, whereas we used to work ‘in the field’. But people in general, do not regulate their diet to match their change in circumstances. We sit behind our desks or in retirement and think we can still eat and drink like we did twenty years ago. Big mistake!

Luckily, there are dozens of diets available to help us attain our weight loss goals. There are the traditional calorie counting diets, as advocated by Weight Watchers; there are the ‘new era’ diets like Atkins, which have us counting carbohydrates and there are no end of fad diets which are frankly not worth wasting time talking about.

The choice of which diet you would like to follow is all yours, of course, but it is well worth exploring the main types of diet to see which one will suit you. Then you must decide whether you will require the help and encouragement of a weekly visit to a club or not, or whether you can get that camaraderie from an online club of slimmers, where you talk to fellow slimmers in the club forum online.

It is also worth fixing in your mind, why you want to diet. Is it to look better? Or to feel more comfortable in yourself? Or is it for health reasons? Or all three? Have a think about your reasons and let them motivate you. Whenever, you feel like packing it all in, remember your motivation. Get a book and journal your progress, but first write your motivation in bold capitals on the front page or cover. Keep it in front of you and read it aloud to yourself every day.

Consult some of the slimming sites online and work out a few key metrics like the average weight people are for your height, sex and body type and your BMI or body mass index. Write these figures on the first page of your book too and use them as the ultimate goals.

You could produce a graph and plot your weekly weight to see how you are doing. Set realistic goals and targets. You can get loads of free information from the Weight Watchers and Atkins websites or / and go to see your doctor for advice and leaflets.

Aim to lose something like 10-20 pounds in the first month and eight to ten per month after that. Go slowly and aim to go slowly, because then you will hit your targets and you won’t feel like giving up. When you get within five to ten pounds of your target weight, assuming that you have lost a lot of weight, rein back a little and allow yourself a little more freedom. Drop your target to one pound a week, so that you will get a feel for ‘eating normally’.

The dreaded exercise; you have to face it, you will need to do more exercise, but two times thirty minute walks a day is ordinarily enough. You could swim once a week too or get an exercise machine, if you are tied to the house by family.

Find New Ways of Sports with the Power Kite Buggy

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The power kite buggy is a small medium of transport that is driven by the power of a kite and is created exclusively to meet this end. It is a single seater and has a wheel in the front that can be manipulated and two wheels in the stern that are fixed. The flying and the steering have to be synchronized such that the speed of the buggy can be regulated. Expert buggy riders can even go up to a top speed of 110 km per hour.

The buggy possess a bucket model seat which provides ample side and back balance which is very necessary as the rider transmits the power of the traction kite in use to the buggy. The bone of contention between the kite and the pilot is a harness and a strop line. The kite aids in the breaking and acceleration tasks.

You have to progress unswervingly in a straight line to adapt yourself to this “parakarting activity.” You have to determine that your kite is about ten to twenty feet over the land during kite buggying.

You have to move right against the wind in a straight line to get accustomed to this “parakarting activity.” Ascertain that your kite is around 10 to 2 feet high up while kite buggying.

Buggies come in various types, with the conventional buggy having three wheels. But with the developments in technology, modern buggies have been created with two and four wheels. Some buggies are also patterned such that they can be used in the snow and in such vehicles wheels are substituted by skating blades.

One thrilling activity that can be done by a pilot is jumps, in which the driver is linked to the power kite buggy with a lap belt. In order to attain more power, you have to use huge kites. In the beginning the driver produces the highest possible power with the kite above him which will help him to be hauled up along with the buggy to greater heights. A lot of experienced drivers carry out a lot of tactics like pendulum swings, side winders, spins and the like.

Kite buggying is a sport which is intended only for accomplished riders. The winds are so irregular that it is compulsory for the rider to defend himself, the milieu and the adjacent people. You cannot do without helmets and jackets and it will a good idea to get third party insurance so that you will be covered in case you inflict destruction to other riders or neighboring people. Last but not the least, a big boost of confidence is absolutely necessary to practice kite buggying and incase you are plagued by the velocity of the kite, it will be feasible to procure a kits which is small and practice on it till you get accomplished to ride a bigger kite

Paintball – The Coolest Sport Ever

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Do you need something fun to do in your free time? Are you tired of being bored and doing activities that don’t bring you any joy or excitement? Then maybe you should take a look at paintball. In this article I’ll give you a few reasons why I think paintball is the coolest sport.

You probably remember playing dodgeball or tag as a kid. Remember how much fun those games were? Dodgeball may not have been fun if you couldn’t throw a ball very well, but with paintball, nearly everyone can pull a trigger. I loved those games as a kid, but now paintball is my more extreme version of those games.

Once the game starts, your heart will start racing. Seeing paintballs fly through the air, and hearing them fly by your head is pretty intense. Shooting an opponent with a paintball feels great too. If you don’t leave the game with a smile, you may be a zombie.

Many sports favor players that are within a certain age range or size range. Basketball favors taller people, and football favors huge people. People of all sizes and ages can play paintball and have fun.

One of the things I love about this sport is that you can customize the gear you play with to exactly how you want it (money permitting). You can choose from hundreds of different paintball markers that all offer something different. Some you have to pump before you shoot, some are electronic, mechanical, or others are made to look like real guns.

Paintball is a great sport that is lots of fun to play. While playing you get a rush of excitement and after the game your face should be all smiles. Many of us played tag growing up. This sport can be called an extreme version of tag. Anyone that gets involved in this sport can create and play with their dream marker.

If you are looking for a sport that is extreme in fun and excitement, I suggest you try paintball.

Golfing for Novices: Part One

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

The popularity of the game of golf has increased tremendously over the past forty-five years, giving us great champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods and world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, St. Andrews, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral.

But why should golfing have become so poplar with the public? Surely, it must be because a round of golf is a leisurely, but nevertheless, active, outdoor pursuit with a competitive side that can be enjoyed with friends but that can never be mastered.

Your scorecard shows your progress, or lack of it, and this can spur you on to want to play again.

Here follows an elementary lesson for those who know nothing about golf.

Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course. Each hole has its own “par” (value), which is the combined number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you approach the green), and putts (on the green) you should need to take.

‘Par’ is determined by the length and difficulty of each hole and can range from three to six. So, if you get the golf ball in the hole in six shots on a ‘par six’ hole, you ‘made par’; if you make it in five, it’s a “birdie” or seven, a “bogie”.

There are usually “hazards” of some sort or other on all the holes. Bodies of water, sand traps, and trees are strategically placed to make reaching the hole more challenging. Beginner golfers should seek to find courses to play that are easier to play with fewer hazards.

Players mark their own scorecard with the cumalative total of shots taken for each hole. After playing all the holes, the players add up their own scorecards and the one with the lowest score is the winner.

Please don’t take your score or your lack of skill to heart when you are a beginner golfer, because, although the professionals make it look simple, it takes many years to play the game well.

It makes very good sense to take a few lessons from the course pro, when you are just beginning to learn to play golf, because then you will learn how to stand and swing the golf club correctly.

Benefits Of Compressed Air For Paintball Guns

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

New players to paintball often go for the less expensive equipment and markers. This is comparable to how beginners of all sports usually start with equipment that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

While CO2 is the power source of choice for many of the more affordable markers, it isn’t the best choice. It will work fine for many, but for players who want the best performance they can get from their marker, HPA is a better option, although it is more expensive.

Making the switch to compressed air (aka HPA) is a great idea for paintballers that want to have the best performance. Improved performance is the main reason for switching.

During periods of rapid fire, a marker fueled by CO2 is most likely to have problems. Consistency will drop, and the paintballs will begin flying shorter distances, making it difficult to hit what you are aiming for.

Consistency is important when you are shooting rapidly at a target. You want the paintballs to fly the same distance for each shot you fire. When CO2 doesn’t expand fast enough, drop offs in distance occur.

Unlike CO2, compressed air performs great in cold weather. This is especially important for anyone who regularly plays in colder temperatures, or during winter.

When you shoot fast, your marker can “freeze up” which happens when the liquid enters your marker and wreaks havoc in performance. It can cause your gun to sputter, choke, or stop working.

Do you sometimes have what looks like snow shooting out of your gun when it is cold outside? This is the telltale sign that liquid is starting to get into your gun.

The problem with CO2 is that it is in both liquid and gas form inside your tank. Gas is good, but the liquid is bad when it gets into the marker. When it happens, it causes poor performance. Compressed air tanks only have air inside of them.

Paintballers that want the best performance should make the switch to a compressed air tank. It is more consistent and will not give you problems in cold weather.

Dirtboarding – Why You Should Try Dirtboarding ASAP

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

There are plenty of reasons as to why you should give mountain boarding (aka all terrain skateboarding and dirtboarding) a try if you never have before. If you have tried it, you probably now already how much fun it is. The article will give you just a few reasons why you should try it out for yourself.

Many people feel like they lead boring, average, mundane lives. Hobbies, recreational activities and sports can help those people shake off their melancholy and get some excitement going in their lives. If you need more excitement in your life, the extreme sport of mountain boarding is chalked full of it.

Lots of us could use more exercise in our lives. Things like T.V., video games, computers, Internet, and jobs or school that keep us locked up all day cause us to burn much less calories than we need to. Taking up mountain boarding can give you an extra dose of much needed exercise in your life.

Many of us will agree that getting fresh air is nice and makes us feel better. This extreme sport was born outdoors and excels outdoors. You get to enjoy the nice weather, explore nature while searching for new riding spots, and breathe in fresh air all while having fun.

Feel like you want something that challenges you in your life? All terrain skateboarding can be as challenging as you want it to be. There is always a bigger hill, a harder trick, or an event that you can try to win.

I always feel better after an outing of all terrain skateboarding. It doesn’t matter if I fell and got a couple of bumps and bruises, the enjoyment I receive from it makes it all worthwhile to go again next weekend.

That completes my best reasons for why you should get out there and give dirtboarding a try. However, you’ll never know what dirtboarding is truly like unless you try it for yourself, so get out there and try it!

To find out more about this exciting sport, check out ATBRiders, a mountain board community where you may also find used mountain boards.
