Massages Are More Than Just a Luxury – Real Health Benefits of Massage

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Did you know that as much as 66% of the symptoms and health conditions that people go to the doctor for today are caused by stress or the inability to handle stress properly? It’s true! Our modern world is a very stressful place to live, yet so many of us fail to recognize the health benefits of getting a regular massage. It has now been proven that routine massage can help reduce stress and increase the ability to handle stress effectively.

While the bulk of the benefits of massage do center upon stress relief, there are a wide variety of specific benefits within that category, including: -Massage increases blood flow throughout the body which leads to a better distribution of oxygen and nutrients to vital organs and tissues. This results in a greater sense of well being and a strong immune system. -The mentally and physically relaxing nature of massage helps improve sleep so it is more refreshing. -Treatments for cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and a variety of other health conditions can be drastically enhanced by the use of massage therapy. -Physical movement is greatly enhanced and muscles are less susceptible to injury with consistent massage. -Enhanced performance of the nervous system and overall increased muscle tone. -Reduced inflammation inside the body which can lead to arthritis and the development of cancerous cells. -Relief from stress, anxiety, and depression.

Massage is essential for those who are on their feet for the bulk of the day or who regularly workout at an intense pace in order to stay in shape. The muscles, tendons, and joints of the body are put under extreme stress from these workouts or from the strain of using the muscles on a consistent basis for hours on end at work. If massage is not used to care for the muscles, injuries are likely to occur. There could even be more serious damage that results in lower ranges of motion capability, strains in the tendons, pulls in the muscles, and cramps that can be quite painful.

If you have been in an accident or have some other physic injury, you may very well benefit from regular therapeutic massage. This is usually prescribed by a doctor. Therapeutic massage is used for treating a specific condition or injury. A massage therapist has been trained in advanced medical massage techniques beyond what a relaxation massage performer knows.

Massage therapy can be used to correct muscular problems such as whiplash or it can be used to treat more serious conditions. This is why it is considered more of a medical procedure, rather than a luxury for the upper classes.

If you are feeling more stressed out by the day, you are not alone! Our population today is stressed out to a greater degree than ever seen in the past, and that is likely to only continue in the future. Rather than doing nothing about it and accepting the negative consequences of stress, you can take action and allow regular massages to alleviate much of the stress your body processes.

Think about all of the alternative ways to relieve stress. You could take over-the-counter medications but there are many unpleasant side effects. You could get a prescription from your doctor, but since most of them are addictive they could destroy your life. Obviously, stress is the most effective way to relieve stress.

If you are in need of some drastic stress relief, have recently suffered an accident, or simply want to enhance your immune system so you get sick less often, the power of regular massage cannot be underestimated!

What Are The Best Massage Therapy Techniques?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Massage therapy techniques come in many different forms and hundreds of different packages. Some have a medical purpose, some have a stress relief purpose, and some have a more spiritual purpose. If you are looking to get a massage, what kind should you get? What is right for you, and how will you know if you do not understand some of the biggest massage principles?

Acupressure is a great catch-all for medical massages. If you have some form of health issue and it is giving you a lot of pain or discomfort, this could be the one for you. It is a Chinese practice directly related to acupuncture. Only here, the pressure points are rubbed instead of stuck with a needle. These points are believed to be the center of all the body. By manipulating them, you can help control your health.

Barefoot massages are a unique luxury and can be very helpful to people who have very physical jobs. The more physical the job, the deeper the tension goes into your muscles. One of the best ways to get the tension out is to lay down while a therapist stands on your back and walks along your muscles. It is usually just a back massaging technique, since few muscles are strong enough to need (or to bear) the weight of a person. It can be dangerous if not done right, but when it is done well, the feet can work wonders for soreness.

Deep tissue massages are one step more intense than the barefoot massage. This massage therapy is for people who have been injured or who have very high levels of tension. The goal is to work on the muscles deep down, under the first layer of muscle. These are very rarely worked upon, which means that they could be sore after. If you are a more delicate person, you may find this to be painful.

Postural integration involves movement from both parties and a lot of therapeutic emotional work. It is primarily a deep tissue massage, but the patient moves arms and legs in long gestures and does several different exercises for emotional health. These exercises depend on the therapist.

Reflexology massages are strictly for hands and feet. They get little enough good treatment when one considers how often they are really used. They are carefully rubbed down and the few muscles in these appendages are fully loosened. There is also the spiritual belief that your internal organs are directly connected to your hands and feet, making a massage on the outside also be a massage on the inside.

The stone massage is the least intense of all of these. It has more for your own personal relaxation and some mild stress relief. It can feel very good, especially if the weather is cold out. Carefully selected stones are heated up in water to a certain temperature. They are set on your body at crucial muscle points so you muscles ease.

Swedish massages are the last of the major ones. While most of the others involve just rubbing the muscles, the Swedes believe that muscles need more kinds of action. They vibrate and jab the muscles, create friction for them, and then ease it by sweeping the hands over them. It will be a standard massage in a very different way. Most of these massages can be combined with one another to form their own special type. You should learn what your body wants from you.

Massage is Good for Babies

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Premature babies are exposed to many forms of stress while during their stay in intensive care nurseries, such as invasive procedures, blood drawing, bright lights and loud noises. Stress can interfere with their immune system’s functioning and render them more susceptible to infections. Several research studies have demonstrated the positive effects massage therapy has on premature babies. It lowers stress and enhances their immune system’s functioning.

Massage promotes growth and development in premature infants. Prior to birth babies are physically stimulated while in their mother’s wombs.

Also, premature and low birth weight babies are often placed in incubators, open beds, attached to numerous monitors that interfere with them being touch as often as full term babies.

The University of Miami’s Touch Research Institute has reported for over twenty years the benefits associated with infant massages. It increases the baby’s resistance to infection by stimulating the immune system. Also, massaged babies experience an accelerated weight gain.

Massage also raises oxytocin levels, a hormone that possess pain relieving abilities and a calming effect.

A review of 14 randomized research studies involving premature and or low birth weight babies was conducted.

The review included studies in which a control group of babies that did not receive massage. The were compared to the babies who did. The babies, in most of the studies were massaged for about 15 minutes, three or four times a day, for five or ten days. The studies determined that that babies receiving massage experienced more weight gain (about 5 grams), were discharged from the hospital faster, had slightly better developmental test scores and experienced fewer complications. Product Review: Sanyo DR7700K Massage Chair Recliner

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Our goal is to present a potential massage chair buyer with a comprehensive and unbiased review of a given massage chair. We have developed a 5 category system to evaluate a massage chair. We give equal weight to each category and give 0 to 20 points rating and then add them up to present an overall score. Our categories include Warranty & Customer Service, Comfort/Ergonomics, Ease of Use, Features and Massage Therapy. This systematic approach forces us to a disciplined method of evaluating a massage chair to help guide anyone looking at massage chairs. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K shiatsu massage chair price is in the luxury range of $4,000 to $5,000.

Warranty & Customer Service: It is important that the manufacturer stand behind its product. A good gage of the company’s confidence is its warranty coverage and duration. Sanyo gives a 1 year labor, 1 year parts and 1 year in-home service. It does cover the roller mechanism for 3 years. Sanyo is well below other manufacturers in this category with its parts and labor. Sanyo recently instituted in-home service with the 1 year in-home whereas most are 90 days. Customer service is good. Sanyo has a national hot line with 24/7 service. Turnaround time on service is good. Our Rating in this category is 14.

Comfort & Ergonomics: Massage chair recliners should fit the body and be comfortable to site on. The Sanyo DR7700K is well padded and the chair back comfortable. The detachable head pillow is designed well to support the head. The seat is average to sit in and the armrests are plush. Unfortunately, the footrest cannot be adjusted which limits the chair to shorter individuals. Taller people feel some restriction with the footrest. Overall Rating for Sanyo DR7700K for comfort and ergonomics is 15.

East of Use: Massage Chair manufacturers are building in more technology and features into their chairs. Users need to be able to quickly, easily and intuitively understand how to use of a product. The HEC-DR7700K comes equipped with advanced features. The main remote control has 4 auto programs and a Zero Gravity button to recline the chair back. Overall, this Sanyo remote is fairly intuitive and simple to use. The sub-remote is a tied to the chair with a cable. But the main remote is simple in design and easy to use. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is a 19 in Ease of Use.

Key Features: The most prominent features of the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K are the GK Rollers and Zero Gravity. Zero Gravity is a leaned back position where the pressure from your body evenly distributed across your back and your knees are above your heart. The GK Rollers are jointed massage heads that push outward from the chair back and can grip your shoulders. The most impressive feature is the GK rollers as they bring a third dimension into the robotic massage world. The sensation of the rollers coming over the top of your shoulders is an important advance in massage chair technology. The massaging capabilities of the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K are solid. Our rating in this category is 18.

Massage Therapy: The DR7700K has 4 full body automatic courses, 5 massage speed settings and in a total combination of 83 manual massage courses. The manual massage techniques include the following: Shiatsu, Kneading, Tapping, and Kneading & Tapping. Additionally, because of the GK roller system, Sanyo offers Grip, which is a squeezing sensation. Sanyo incorporates various stretches. The DR7700K massage chair uses 24 airbags with projections that perform a shiatsu massage on the calves and an undulating sole shiatsu massage. There are a wide range of massage capabilities and the GK rollers add a critical third dimension. Our rating in this category is 19.

We just reviewed 5 categories ranging from warranty to features to ergonomics. How does the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K Based on the 5 categories the total score for the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is a 85/100. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K provides fairly thorough full body massage therapy. The technology is innovative and reliable. Sanyo has one of the weaker warranties providing less protection for the customer. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K integrates some interesting features to locate trouble areas and provides good relief to the shoulders and neck. The Sanyo has most of the elements of a great massage chair, but seems to be lacking from its roots. The sensory experience missing seems to be music and with Sanyo’s background in stereos just seems odd. This is a luxury class massage chair and has solid technology, but just seems a bit incomplete. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is just average for the luxury class of shiatsu massage chairs.

Detoxification: Live Longer and Clean Your Body Out Today

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Experiencing headaches, muscles pains and other usual aches or stomach upsets could be signals that you need to detoxify your body. The harmful substances around us have probably been too much for your body system and it is telling you to help clean them out. Even if our body has an efficient system of flushing out toxins especially through the liver and the kidneys, the accumulated toxins could be harder to handle.

Living in an environment where toxins proliferate everywhere, it is not surprising that they find their way into our body through our food and water and even from the air. They are usually from aluminium cans, paints, copper wires, pesticides and cigarette smoke. Even our amalgam dental feelings contain toxins that go directly to our body. We also get them from food additives or from cookwares and cleaning products.

The process of detoxification has long been practiced especially in Chinese and Ayurvedic methods. The cleansing program will promote the elimination of toxins that threaten to destroy our body’s normal processes. As we naturally move towards spring cleaning for a fresh start and renewed energy, we could also properly apply it to our internal system.

So, when do we need to detoxify? What are the natural steps that we could follow to safely flush out the toxic compounds that accumulated inside us? What are the different cleansing methods that we could look into? How do we know which is right for our needs?

Many espouse the habit of an annual detoxification process. If you are intent about the process, there are a number of natural cleansing methods to pursue. There is even a mild cleanse or a thorough one. Although over all, water is still the best for detoxification. Just making sure that you drink eight glasses per day is already a good way of cleansing your system. As water hydrates your whole body, it could make your skin glow with health and aid your internal organs, especially the liver and kidneys, in the natural detoxification process.

Tea is also known to effectively cleanse our internal system. Green tea is best because of its known anti-oxidant and anti-allergen capabilities. It also has the ability to scavenge free radicals that threatens to damage our cells. Other benefits include the increased production of enzymes which our body needs as well as the antiviral and antibacterial properties of this tea.

Many on the other hand subscribe to the nutritional method of detoxification. A lot of common herbs, fruits and vegetables are actually good at detoxifying your system. Lemon, along with other citrus fruits tops the list. They efficiently eliminate the unwanted toxins in your system. Garlic has also been lauded for its many benefits. Green vegetables, some nuts and seeds could also do the trick. Just by including them in your daily diet already aids your body as it eradicates the toxins.

If you want seek out other detoxifying methods, you can choose from any or a combination of other techniques. There are programs that offer a mix of exercise, aromatherapy, breathing techniques to support the nutritional method. Steam baths and saunas are also another method of cleansing out the body of harmful substances. Still, other methods include parasitic cleanse, fasting, foot detox or oxygen therapy. Some subscribe to maintaining an organic food diet to maintain the natural cleansing process of the body.

Bear in mind that your end goal is to eliminate the harmful substances that have accumulated inside your body. These toxins contain free radicals that could cause lasting damage to your cells and your organs. If we fail to do something to prevent them from wrecking damage, it could lead to various illnesses including not just the occasional aches but also the acute and fatal diseases. With just the simple steps in the detoxification process, you already prevent the possible ailments brought by the toxins. You also promote better health and fitness for your entire body.

The Massage Chairs At The Consumer Electronics Show Are Best

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Every year Las Vegas is host to the largest consumer electronics tradeshow on the planet. The Consumer Electronics Show or CES consists of manufacturers of every category of electronics. My interest was to see the very best in massage chairs. Although there were many massage chair vendors, I was interested in the manufacturers of the top products and present what I found.

One of the more interesting massage chairs at the show was the Dream Wave Sogno. The Dream Wave Sogno was the winner of the CES 2010 Innovation Award for its advanced designed and sophistication. This massage recliner has some amazing technology.

The Dream Wave comes with an advanced air massage system. This massage chair is loaded with air bags. In addition to the normal assortment for the legs and buttocks, the Sogno comes with air bags for the arms and the neck area. I thought the arm massage was a bit weak for my personal taste. I did, however, really like the air bags for the neck area. This chair was effective for relieving my stress in the neck region.

The Sogno comes with a rocking seat which is built on a pivot to provide ergonomic support for your spinal column. It makes a wave-like movement to help relieve stress on the spine. This gentle rocking motion is what provides the Dream Wave name for the Sogno. There is some impressive technology in the Dream Wave massage chair and its price is a bit lofty at $6,000.

Another impressive high end massage chair is produced by Fuji Medical. The Fujiiryoki recliner provides a full body massage and a shoulder press. The shoulder press is firm and provides great relief from the sides of the body during the massage therapy. The Fujiiryoki has an FDA device listing and was touted as a medical chair. This advanced therapeutic massage recliner retails for $10,000. They also have the infamous “Dr. Fuji” which is worth a visit alone to hear his sales pitch.

The Fujiiryoki recliner provides for a soothing back massage and has some effective techniques. The chair back pads are thick material but a bit hard to the body. The air massage covers the feet, calves, seat, arms and shoulders. The design is fairly contemporary. The shoulder press requires an extra attachment to the sides of the chair and is a tough design element to hide in most houses.

Now, having tried the most expensive chairs at the CES, I was interested in how the Omega Montage Premier would compare. I liked the neck massage of the Sogno and the shoulder compression of the Fujiiryoki. The Montage Premier, however, gave a stronger massage and penetrated deeper. Another note was the supplemental items such as music, full body heat and a traction system which the Montage Premier had but were lacking in the others.

Omega has put together a fuller massage experience with its Montage Premier. A tradeshow is the toughest environment to try massage chairs because of all the action going on. The Montage Premier let me tune out the show with their built in MP3 player and headphones. I closed my eyes drifted off as the music carried me away and the Montage Premier worked is soothing massage therapy. I activated the full body heaters and the traction system to stretch my lower body. This was certainly an excellent test to relaxation. The Montage Premier passed with flying colors as I felt fully relieved. Even the $4,500 price tag was more relieving than the others I tried.

There were many massage chair companies spread throughout the CES show. I quickly learned that there were manufacturers and there are importers. I stayed clear from the importers as they seemed to be interested in a quick sale. The manufacturers are the ones that have staying power and will be there to support your warranty down the road.

I also tried a variety of massage chairs form all sorts of companies. I tell you this is hard work. Some of these chairs are poorly designed or have ineffective massage therapies, so I won’t name any names here. There are always companies that are out for a quick buck. I always ask the company if they sell to retailers. If they don’t then I am always concerned with warranty problems down the road.

The 2010 CES show was certainly impressive. It attracts over 130,000 people and they were out in force. I was able to get to try the best massage chairs on earth at one place. The best massage chairs were the Montage Premier, Sogno and the Fujiiryoki. These are all solid chairs with some amazing massage therapy and technology. These are the cream of the crop from the 2010 CES show.

The CES is the showcase of consumer electronics and is every year in Las Vegas. This consumer electronics show has almost 3,000 vendors spread between 3 convention centers. It is huge! It is held in early January. You can always count on finding the top manufacturers in every category of consumer electronics. Book early as this show will fill up all those amazing hotels.

The CES is absolutely the showcase for the most advanced Massage Chairs in the World. You will find a showcase of everything electronic, the World has to offer. For more information, check out our massage chair reviews and articles. We feature the best brands of massage chairs for all your needs.

Massage Your Way To Health And Relaxation

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

A body massage has a revitalizing effect on the body. It relaxes you, it invigorates you, it refreshes you. Read on to find out how a massage can do wonders for you in more ways than you thought possible.

You must have experienced a fair share of massages given to you, and you must have given others a number of massages yourself. Even at that non-professional level you’ll have noticed how the person receiving the massage feels and reacts. They feel all ‘thawed’ out! Relaxed, comfortable, at ease, tension-free, rested, and energized. That’s the basic idea behind the activity known as a massage. The body massage has found a place of importance in a number of alternative therapies which are a continuation of the ancient, classical medical traditions. Let’s see what a massage therapist does.

Let’s get a walkthrough of a professional massage. Once in the salon of a professional massage therapist, you’ll be shown to a private cubicle. There you’ll have to remove your clothes and lie down on a massage table with a sheet draped over you. You may have a general massage done, for relaxation and general body tone. Or, you may require more intense massage therapy, like deep tissue massage, which is, well, intense!

When the massage therapist begins the massage, you feel a certain pressure forming in the area being massaged. It stops just short of being painful. However that feeling is momentary. Immediately afterwards you’ll feel the pressure getting less and with it you’ll feel a relaxation that is very pleasant. The pain, the soreness and the tiredness you came in with, will just evaporate! The massaging effect exercises your blood vessels and your nerves. The blood circulation picks up pace and the nerves get back to their proper position. The increased blood circulation helps the restorative elements in the blood to reach damaged areas faster and better. This heals the body, thus improving your health.

It is not only sportspersons who require massage therapy. We all do! Our life has become so hectic; our lifestyle has become so sedentary or lacking in physical activity that our body suffers for it. We sit in awkward positions, we slouch, we shamble around… all this unconsciously. The result is that our blood vessels get shifted from their normal positions and so also do the nerves. Knotted blood vessels means poor blood circulation, which means poor health. Knotted nerves means your very sensations are disturbed. The brain gets a lot of static from cramped up nerves. Result: tension and stress, which makes you lose concentration, comprehension, and conviction. The body massage, as administered by a qualified professional massage therapist, mind you, works the body in such a way that your blood vessels and nerves regain their normal position. Your blood begins to flow normally and your nerves function normally. The physical pressure of the massage even serves to reduce flab, if any. Your skin benefits as well. The massage itself, and the massage oils, rejuvenate the skin. The subcutaneous blood circulation improves and the muscles that lie just below the dermal layer get exercised. This results in a firmer, tauter, radiant skin tone. So you end up looking better.

We generally believe that a massage is a form of physical therapy, and hence benefits us in a physical way only. This is not true. We are benefited mentally as well as physically. Just as the muscles get tired due to the accumulation of wastes, our brain undergoes much the same effect when we exert ourselves mentally. The enhanced blood circulation washes away the accumulated toxins from the brain, and leaves it fresh and tension-free! That’s why you can get a really good, healthy sleep after a body massage.

Professional massage therapy goes beyond enhancing the blood circulation. Professional massage therapy is based on touch therapy, which states that a touch is a psychological bridge between two sentient entities. So, if a colleague is feeling down, a hug will lift his spirits. We’ve seen that happen often enough to know that it is true. A professional massage therapist knows this, and uses it to generate psychological well-being in the subject. So, now you know where to go when you’re aching and paining!

It is part of the new Panasonic urban collection in is designed to help you achieve therapeutic muscle relaxation. The EP 1080 comes with a number of different massage techniques including the new Chiro mode. The new Chiro mode massage is a new technique designed for better muscle relaxation. It also helps to promote good posture by eliminating fatigued muscles. This is a great way to relax and let the massage chair do you work to help you relax and find relief for tight and sore muscles.

The first thing that you’ll notice about the EP 1080 is its new design. Panasonic is finally concentrating on getting more stylish massage chairs into their lineup. Loosening up tight muscles is the specialty of the Panasonic EP 1080 KL massage chair. You can simply utilize a kneading style massage. This is a side to side motion which is great for loosening up large muscles especially the back. You can even position the rollers in the area that you would like massage.

We love that Panasonic has included the Hawaiian massage and the EP 1080 KL massage chair. This is not a very common technique to find. It is good for loosening up your shoulders and back. It uses a swaying side to side motion which is very effective.

As with most Panasonic products, you expect to find the latest technology. Panasonic uses a floating mechanism for its rollers. The rollers are able to make movements similar to that of a wrist. This gives it the ability to perform movements similar to that of a hand.

One area that technology is being used to identify is acupoints. There have been almost 350 different acupoints identified in the human body. There are nearly 100 alone just in the back and neck areas. Many of the massage programs target stimulation of these areas to induce greater energy circulation.

Comfort is an important aspect of any massage recliner. Panasonic includes power recline for both the chair back and leg rest. There are independent controls to control the angles of both of these parts of the chair. Just set the angle most comfortable for your legs and for your back.

The standard warranty with the EP 1080 KL massage chair is three years of parts and one year of labor. This is warranty coverage for this price point. You may also have the option of purchasing an extended warranty in some cases.

The EP-1080 gives you a good range of massage techniques and a fairly attractive contemporary design. There are a number of effective techniques included in this model.
